It’s simple to go to Jiufen from Beimen Wow Poshtel. First, you need to take MRT green line to Beimen Station - 北門站 (or you can also go by walking, it’s not far). Once you get there, go to exit number 2. As soon as you get out you will see the bus stop where you can get on the bus that will take you to Jiufen. You have to take line 965 from MRT Beimen Sta. (捷運北門站) to Jiufen Old Street (九份老街). It takes about an hour and costs 90 NTD.

Jiufen was a mining town during the gold rush of the Japanese era up until the 1950s but, far from becoming a ghost town, its stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, tea houses, picturesque winding streets and vintage feel, made it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. It is said to be the inspiration for the animation movie Spirited Away, and it makes the perfect day trip from Taipei. But be ready to climb up stairs!

You can find all sorts of Taiwanese popular street foods, as well as souvenir shops, pottery stores and lovely Tea Houses, where you can experience a traditional Taiwanese tea ceremony.

We personally think it is worth visiting A-Mei Teahouse, the picturesque one that you see in all photos depicting Jiufen. The tea ceremony was beautifully explained, and the tea was basically the best tea we’ve ever tried.

Then, if you’re hungry, we recommend you treat yourself to a nice bowl of Braised Pork Rice (滷肉飯) and have a delicious dessert such as a Peanut Ice Cream Roll (花生捲冰淇淋) and, of course… have some Bubble Tea!
